National curriculum
From early years to post compulsory education we believe that clay can offer unique creative and educational possibilities. We feel that clay is an excellent tool to explore various areas of the national curriculum. It can provide wonderful cross-curricular opportunities from developing an understanding the role of Art, Craft and Design in society to experimenting with clay scientifically and examining the transformation from raw material to the fired object. Clay also makes connections with geography, history, numeracy and communication.
Each workshop is unique and we like to discuss individual requirements with you so that we can devise a suitable programme so that children get the most from the workshop. From these discussions we can draw up a scheme of work for teachers before the workshop so that the school has an understanding of what will be happening in the session (also the paperwork could be useful to show OFSTED on their next visit!)
Our approach
We aim to provide opportunities for young people to engage with clay in interesting and expressive ways. We have worked on projects where participants work on individual pieces and also collaboratively. The starting points for workshops could be our own artwork, inspirations and techniques; could stem from current school projects; or be a combination of both.
We believe it is important to be responsive and flexible to individual needs and the dynamics of the group, taking an open-minded approach to making, whilst operating within a framework that ensures a sense of achievement for participants.
